Story

Named for James Smithson, our Smithson shirt pays homage to the founder of the Smithsonian Institution. A British chemist and mineralogist, Smithson never actually visited the United States. Yet in his will he bequeathed the entirely of his fortune to the U.S. Government to establish the Smithsonian. Our Smithson shirt comes in a soft poplin with a regal purple and white small check pattern.Smithson also features our new Semi-spread, or ÒAinsleyÓ style. ItÕs a classic collar that looks great dressed up with a tie or casually unbuttoned. Along with our new mitered convertible cuffs, this is one of our most versatile shirt styles yet.

Fabric

Egyptian cotton is a particular variety that is grown in only a few other places. It is renowned as some of the best in the world. It has an extra long staple, which means it has longer fibers, resulting in a silkier, more durable fabric.Poplin, sometimes called broadcloth, is a plain weave which means the threads alternately cross over and then under each other. This results in a very smooth and durable fabric that has an almost silky hand feel, particularly with higher thread counts. Also, poplins look very crisp when ironed.
